“The family of pigs, dubbed ‘adorable’ by tourists, locals and media alike, have become incredibly popular,” says The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism website. “They live freely on the sandy beaches… The pigs, though feral, are exceptionally friendly,” it continues, “running from under the shade of the almond trees to greet visitors that bring them treats.”

However, after the recent incident, some regulations will have to be introduced. V Alfred Gray, the country’s Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, said from now on “people will be able to take photographs and see the pigs swim… but they will not be able to feed them things.”

7 out of around 22 famous Bahamian swimming pigs were found dead after tourists fed them alcohol

“[They] were given the wrong food… We had them pigs there almost 30 years, and never has this happened”

“Right now it’s blowing out of proportion with people, anybody, bringing food there…”

“Giving the pigs beer, rum, riding on top of them”

Cleaning the Dead
In Indonesia, it is fairly common for ancestors of a passed loved one to dig up the body. But why?

Respect for the Elderly: New Extremes
We have heard making a body look good before it is put in the ground, but digging it up from time to time to re-dress it, clean it up, and tidy up the casket seems a bit excessive.

The Works
These corpses get the first class spa treatment, consisting of a cleaning, grooming, and new pair of clothes for their return trip to the six feet under.

Come, Come Everyone!
It does not matter the age of the person when they became deceased, as you can see even children are exhumed and treated with respect.

Keep the Spirits Around
This particular Indonesian tradition stems from the notion that the spirits of the dead can, and should, remain around the town where they lived. They are simply encouraging these spirits’ participation.

Toraja: The Hub of the Tradition
In particular, an Indonesian village called Toraja engages in this ritual more than any other. In this village the death ritual is considered more important than even marriage.

Not Much Work to Be Done
After years of decay, how much grooming could be required of these mostly hair-less corpses? Well, imagine how they would look if they had not been keeping them young all of these years.

Flaunt it if You Got It
This woman has a head of hair that many men and women would be enviable of, and she looks like she has been dead for centuries!

Don’t Fear the Reaper
Look at how comfortable this boy is handling the dead body of what is presumably his past relative. This tradition certainly is a way to remember loved ones in an intimate way.

I came up over a hill to find the momma duck dead and the babies scurrying into the road to get to her. I pulled a quick U-turn and shooed them off the road. They huddled by a closed garage for warmth.

When Reddit user powerbookguy came home the other day, this is probably the last thing he expected to find outside of his home. But it’s also the most (tragically) adorable thing he could’ve imagined too: a flock of baby ducks, without their mother in sight.
He called his wife and said, “I’m bringing home 7 baby ducks! Hop online and figure out how we keep them alive.” And here’s how it all went down, in his words:

I quickly discovered I had nothing in my car to transport ducks (won’t make that mistake again!). An employee from the golf course just down the street got me a box. Here they are cuddled in the box after I collected them.

Once home, my wife and daughters helped me make a temporary home for them…a storage bin with a towel in the bottom.

We quickly discovered these little guys (girls?) can really jump! My girls had this innovate solution to block them from hopping out while I searched for a better solution.

One tiny duck hotel with a heat lamp, check! I cleared a space in the corner of our garage and it was time for them to move in.

They seemed to take to the new spot right away. They drank water from bowls and then just sat in the water. Our neighbor ran to a local pet store and picked up some food for them.

They survived the night! We’d done everything we knew to do and were pretty sure they would be warm enough, but it was great to see them alive and well still this morning. Next step, finding them a permanent home.

Being an animal lover myself, I can say I’m a big fan of this guy and what he did. They surely wouldn’t have survived long alone, and now they’ve got a chance to live happy little ducky lives in loving homes.

The Dead Sea is roughly 8.6 times saltier than the ocean. This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which animals cannot flourish (hence its name). The high salinity prevents macroscopic aquatic organisms such as fish and aquatic plants from living in it, though minuscule quantities of bacteria and microbial fungi are present.

Amazing Wikipedia facts about the Dead Sea.

The surface and shores of the Dead Sea are 423 metres (1,388 ft) below sea level, making it Earth’s lowest elevation on land.

The Dead Sea is 377 m (1,237 ft) deep, making it the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. A hypersaline lake is a landlocked body of water that contains significant concentrations of sodium chloride or other mineral salts, with saline levels surpassing that of ocean water.

With 33.7% salinity, the Dead Sea is one of the world’s saltiest bodies of water. Although Lake Assal (Djibouti), Garabogazköl and some hypersaline lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond) have reported higher salinities.

The Dead Sea’s unusually high salt concentration means that people can easily float in the Dead Sea due to natural buoyancy. In this respect the Dead Sea is similar to the Great Salt Lake in Utah in the United States.

The Dead Sea is 67 kilometres (42 mi) long and 18 kilometres (11 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley and its main tributary is the Jordan River.

The Dead Sea area has become a major center for health research and treatment for several reasons. The mineral content of the water, the very low content of pollens and other allergens in the atmosphere, the reduced ultraviolet component of solar radiation, and the higher atmospheric pressure at this great depth each have specific health effects.

Biblically, the Dead Sea was a place of refuge for King David. It was one of the world’s first health resorts (for Herod the Great), and it has been the supplier of a wide variety of products, from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers.

The world’s lowest road, Highway 90, runs along the Israeli and West Bank shores of the Dead Sea at 393 m (1,289 ft) below sea level.
