An amazing collection of pictures from John C.H. Grabill, a western photographer in the late 1800’s. These images were sent to the Library of congress for copyright between 1887 and 1892. Most of the photos he took were of every day occurrences in the frontier life. This collection of photos was taken in the Deadwood, South Dakota area, otherwise known as the Black Hills. The land was owned by treaty by the Lakota Indians, but once gold was discovered in 1874, the town of Deadwood became a notoriously lawless town.
