Sharks track their prey with their heartbeats. They can pick up on electrical pulses associated with a heartbeat via electricity-sensing nodules on their nose.

Despite the fact that an almost equal amount of men and women swim in the ocean, men account for nearly 90 percent of shark attack victims.

It is more likely that you are bitten by another person than a shark. You’re even less likely to die from an attack. On average, there are 40 shark attacks reported each year, with only 5-10 of them being fatal.

Hammerhead sharks are born with soft heads so they won’t jam their mothers’ birth canals.

Sharks inhabited the earth 200 million years before the dinosaurs appeared and have changed only minimally during that time.

An ancient shark called Carcharodon Megalodon (“rough tooth, big tooth”) had teeth measuring more than six inches long (the largest shark teeth ever found), jaws big enough to swallow an entire car, and a body the same length as tyrannosaurus rex. Some believe this shark may still exist in the very deepest of waters.

Much like airplanes move through the air, sharks glide through the water. A shark’s tail forces water to flow over its fins much like a propeller creates airflow over the wings of a plane. Their infamous dorsal fins are used for added stability.

The largest known whale shark was longer than a four-story house. It was just over 40 feet long and weighed over 47,000 pounds.

Sharks do not have a single bone in their bodies. Their skeletons are made entirely of cartilage.

Goblin shark dens are so deep, that humans can’t explore them.

Sharks have some of the largest fish brains. While we tend to think sharks are lone hunters and prowl by themselves, they are actually very social creatures, with established hierarchies.

The average shark has 40-45 teeth and can have up to seven rows of replacement teeth. Because sharks lose a lot of teeth and grow them back quickly, they often go through more than 30,000 teeth in a lifetime.

If you are unlucky enough to be bit by a shark, the shark will not likely come back for a second taste when she or he realizes that you are not, in fact, a marine mammal.

Contrary to popular belief, sharks don’t drown if they stop moving. Using the muscles around their mouths, ancient sharks could pump water over their gills so that oxygen could be absorbed. Present-day sharks often breathe differently instead by using fast swimming motions to force water over their gills.

Sharks don’t get cavities. There are several species who have teeth that are coated in fluoride, thus keeping their pearly whites strong.

Sharks are vulnerable creatures. Between 20-30% of shark species are believed to be close to extinction, in large part due to being hooked on accident by commercial fisheries.

The idea for the Terminator series came to James Cameron when he was in Rome during the release of his film ‘Piranha II: The Spawning’. Cameron fell ill and had a fever-dream in his hotel room about “this metal death figure coming out of a fire … the implication was that it had been stripped of its skin by the fire and exposed for what it really was.”

Cameron admits that the final design for the T-800 is identical to the ‘death metal’ figure he saw in his dream. Which is actually kind of…

…Terrifying.

Cameron had more than nine months before work began on ‘The Terminator’ movie as Arnold was busy with ‘Conan The Destroyer’. Since he didn’t have time to do a full movie, Cameron wrote the screenplay that later developed into the movie ‘Aliens’ .

Arnold was apprehensive of initially playing the T-800 as it was a villain’s role. Cameron, however, convinced the actor that the movie will be shot in such a way that made audiences cheer the killing machine.

However, In Judgment Day, Arnold didn’t like that T-800 would now be a good guy, and that he would not be killing people. So, he convinced James Cameron that the character would only stop killing when John Connor would ask him to.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron violently disagreed on the former’s iconic catchphrase, “I’ll be back.” Arnold wanted to say “I will be back” because he thought it sounded more machine-like, while “I’ll” sounded too feminine. All Cameron had to say to that was “I don’t tell you how to act, so don’t tell me how to write.”

Given Arnold Schwarzenegger’s $15-million salary and his total of 700 words of dialog, he was paid $21,429 per word. “Hasta la vista, baby” cost $85,716.

In Poland, The Terminator was re-named, The Electronic Murderer. You see, in Polish “terminator” more or less means “an apprentice”.

The Terminators famous laser pistol was a custom built Colt .45 longslide. The laser sight was custom-made for the movie, with a 10,000 volt power supply hidden in Arnold’s pocket.

Surprisingly for a James Cameron film, ‘The Terminator’ had hardly any special effects. Most effects were created and shot in-camera while some other sequences used miniatures sets. In fact, the skulls being crushed in the opening sequence were about the size of marbles.

Cameron also shot most of the scenes of ‘The Terminator’ at night with streets that had mercury-vapour lamps that helped to keep the filming costs low. This later gave the film its neo-noir look.

Industrial Light and Magic’s computer graphics department had to grow from six artists to almost 36 to accommodate all the work required to bring the T-1000 to life, costing $5.5 million and taking 8 months to produce, which ultimately amounted to 3.5 minutes of screen time.

The Terminators seen at the beginning of the movie were fully workable animatronic models.

In the movie’s last scene at the steel mill, Linda Hamilton’s twin sister Leslie doubled for her when the T-1000 acquires Sarah Connor’s form.

At the time T2 was being shot, Edward Furlong (who plays a young John Conner) was only 13 years of age. Because of a sudden voice change, Furlong had to rerecord a substantial amount of his dialogue.

Arnold’s ‘gunflip’ during the chase scene in Terminator 2: Judgement Day is arguably one of the most memorable scenes in the series. For that scene to materialize, however, the studio had to make a gun with a larger lever as doing it with a regular gun could have broken the actor’s fingers.

For the scene where the naked T-1000 arrives and steals the cops clothes, the effects team had to digitally remove a sensitive part of Robert Patrick’s anatomy.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ was the first film that cost more than $100 million to make. It was an investment well worth it. This movie also set a precedent for winning an Oscar award when its prequel was not even nominated.

More explicit shots of the arm cutting scene were removed as director James Cameron felt they were tasteless and unnecessary.

To make the Terminator seem more unsettling, Schwarzenegger refrained from blinking wherever possible and spent the majority of the film with his skin covered in a thin layer of Vaseline so that his face had a perpetually waxy appearance.

The damaged Terminator look in the climax of the film took five hours to apply and an hour to remove.

With the film’s domestic box office adjusted for inflation, Terminator 2: Judgement Day is the top grossing R-rated action film of all time.

Angelina and Billy Bob

Angelina Jolie can still count Billy Bob Thornton as one of her biggest fans, even though the two are long divorced.

There is a story from a hotel concierge at the Ritz Carlton that, one evening, Angelina and Billy Bob showed up at the hotel around 3am. Billy Bob claimed that he was being chased by aliens and abduction was imminent.

Billy Bob clarified the rumor in an interview on KROQ in Los Angeles:

‘Angelina was about the best wife you could hope for. Angelina marrying me was like the janitor marrying Audrey Hepburn. I have some phobias too, man.

One night, I woke up and I was fairly convinced I was about to be abducted by aliens. I woke Angelina up and told her what was going on. You’d expect her to tell me to shut up and go back to sleep. Instead she jumped out of bed and started packing suitcases; never second guessed me or made me feel like an idiot. I was about to be abducted and that was that, we checked into the Ritz and stayed there for a week.’

Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford

During the filming of Empire Strikes Back, Carrie Fisher stayed with her friend, Eric Idle, who was in Monty Python. One night Eric invited the Rolling Stones over to party.

She called up Harrison Ford, “Holy shit, Harrison, the Rolling Stones are coming over to party.”

The two were supposed to film the first scenes in Cloud City the next day, they had a 5am call time. They had to choose between partying with the Rolling Stones and being hungover the next day, or getting some sleep.

They chose the party. Carrie said, “What a night. We got two hours of sleep. When we showed up on set we weren’t hungover at all, we were still drunk! You can see in the movie when we show up at Cloud City Harrison and I are smiling and laughing. It’s because we were still in the cup.”

Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan was in a club in SOHO, shirtless. Buying bottles of champagne for the table. Tracy got so drunk that he started buying champaign for the tables next to him. Over the course of the night he runs up an obscene tab, nearly $20,000.

There is one white guy at the table, comic Bert Kreischer. The waitress hands him the bill instead of Tracy.

Tracy Morgan flips out.

“That’s racism! I’m the rich motherfucker at the table, not him. I’m on TV!!!’

Tracy flips the entire champagne table over and a bouncer rushes to Tracy and tries to intervene. Tracy takes off his shirt and punches the bouncer in the face. Immediately, a fight breaks out. Four bouncers rush to Tracy, take him by the collar and physically throw the shirtless comic out of the bar.

He lands outside at Bert’s feet. Everybody is silent. Tracy stands up, brushes himself off and exclaims, “Now that’s how you get out of paying a check!”

Ashton Kutcher and Bruce Willis

Ashton Kutcher was nervous. He about to meet Bruce Willis, jealous and a little scared. He later told Vanity Fair, “I mean, this is the guy who used to sleep with my wife.” They met for dinner in Beverly Hills. Bruce was wearing a jacket and it appeared he had a holster visible just inside his jacket. Was Bruce carrying a weapon??? It was the most awkward dinner in history until Bruce withdrew a squirt gun from the holster and sprayed Ashton, laughing, and breaking the ice. The two have been friends ever since.

Right story, wrong celebrity

Karen, a Midwestern housewife, took her first trip to Las Vegas a few years ago. She had done very well playing the slot machines, winning a bucket full of quarters. Karen needed a break, and she left the casino heading toward the elevators, taking her bucket with her.

She steps into the elevator and before the doors shut, four beefy, leather-clad African-American men step in. Karen clutches her bucket close to her body.

One of the men says “Hit four, lady” and she hears, “Hit the floor, lady,” and she does: quarters fly everywhere. The men bust up laughing and they help Karen collect her winnings. One of the men explains that he meant for her to select her floor. They help her collect her quarters and the elevator arrives at her floor. She leaves embarrassed, and the men are still laughing.

Later that evening, a dozen roses are delivered to Karen’s room. The note attached read:

Thank you for the best laugh I’ve had in years!

This story is still debated to this day but many accounts more accurately place the stories’ origins in 1979. Still in Vegas but the celebrity was actually Hall of Famer, Reggie Jackson.

Jamie Lee Curtis to the rescue:

The crosswalk sign on Santa Monica Blvd. turned green and an 85-year-old man was attempting to cross the street with the aid of his walker. His progress was slow at best.

When the light turned red the poor guy had scarcely made it five feet, he was in the middle of the road, trying his best to cross. Some idiot waiting at the light in a new BMW suddenly laid on the horn and began inching forward toward the elderly man, as if this aggressive act was going to usher things along.

At the same time, Jamie Lee Curtis was leaving a pizzeria in Beverly Hills with a pepperoni pizza and saw what was happening.

She stepped in front of the old man and began screaming,

“Can’t you see he’s trying to cross the road, you asshole! You have all the time in the world, he doesn’t!!! Jamie Lee hurled the pizza at the guys windshield and continued yelling. The man turned on his windshield wipers, as the pizza sauce wiped away you could see it dawning on the jerk, not only was he a complete asshole, but that it was Jamie Lee Curtis feeding him his lunch. All he could do was hide his face in shame.

Jamie Lee escorted the man safely across the street, returned to the pizza place, and ordered another pepperoni pie.

Johnny Depp, John Cusack, and Hunter S. Thompson

One night, John Cusack, Johnny Depp, and Hunter S. Thompson took to the streets in LA in a convertible. Hunter had a blow up doll he called Ling Ling. Hunter had decided it was Ling Ling’s birthday and the three stars set out in Hollywood, showing up at random dive bars, taking photos with everybody, and singing Ling Ling happy birthday.

Later in the evening a police car reported, “A man in the intersection of Sunset Blvd. mercilessly beating a blow up doll.”

When accosted Hunter responded, “It was this strumpet’s birthday, we’ve taken her to all her favorite old haunts, and she’s been nothing but ungrateful.”

The officer let Hunter off with a warning. Some speculated as to the truth of the story until somebody stepped forward with a blurry photo of Hunter, John, and Johnny out and about holding, you guessed it, a blow up doll.
