“Hi, my name is Lena! Unfortunately, yesterday I started my forever nap. Don’t be sad, because I was a happy 15.5 years old! I want to share with you how I spent my last 24 hours. It was a lot of fun.”

“First of all, Merry Christmas to all of you out there. I always loved the holidays. It always meant new, awesome tasting foods for me, and of course toys. I’m disappointed I won’t see one this year, but loved the ones I did have.”

“I spent a lot of time doing this this past weekend, as I waited for all of my friends to come visit. I loved seeing people make the walk up to our house!”

“During my last day, my dad and I both thought a lot about all the times we had, including fun trips to Moab…”

“Hiking and disc golfing…”

“And of course time with my family. I love my mom and dad!”

“I loved Mom’s lap. I will miss it soooo much!”

“My parents know I don’t like baths during them, but they know how happy I am afterwards to be clean and smelling great. Must do before your forever nap. 10/10, would recommend.”

“I’m just happy they aren’t using the blow drier.”

“This is Aspen, my cousin. It was great to have a visit from her, although I look so tired. I can’t explain it, but I was just so exhausted towards the end.”

“I guess Chloe might be called my Aunt, but that feels weird because I was older than her. Whatever the case, I loved having her around. I missed running around and playing with her like I used to.”

“I love my granny more than anyone. She took care of me a lot of the time when my Mom or Dad wanted to be irresponsible. She was awesome to the very end.”

“There were many kisses. This one from Dad was on the couch. I was rarely allowed on the couch. I think my cuteness finally wore my Mom and Dad down.”

“I told you I love being on my Mom’s lap. I will miss this.”

“I hope you enjoy this picture as much as I enjoyed eating Max’s food. What a sucker! This is also something I was never allowed to do. I think because it was one of the few things I had an appetite for towards the end that my Daddy gave it to me. It was awesome. Eat your heart out, Max!”

“Well, not exactly steak… My Mom and Dad didn’t think I could handle steak anymore (I think they were right, boo). Instead I got the next best thing: beef baby food. It was perfect, and my Mommy even hand fed it to me.”

“I somehow found the energy for one last trip to the park. It was a lot of fun, although I couldn’t play long as I get tired really fast.”

“There was time for one last family picture as well. I wish my Daddy didn’t look so sad.”

“This is me loaded for my final car ride. Quite the striking profile I know. I wasn’t happy it was my last, but I was ready for it. I served my Mom and Dad as the greatest companion that anyone could ever know. Knowing that I leave with pride and confidence.”

Meeka was 16 years-old when she needed to be put down.

Dogs are amazing friends and companions. They are loyal, loving and will always have your back. Saying goodbye to them is never easy, but this Reddit user found the perfect way to see off her long-time friend.

Meeka the dog was 16 years-old when she needed to be put down. It was the right thing to do, she was in pain. So, her friend decided to give her the most perfect treat before saying goodbye.

She had a long and happy life…

And on her last day, her owner gave her a treat she always wanted but could never have: ice cream.

The husky-shepherd mix was a loving companion.

But it was time for her to go play fetch in paradise.

These final moments she spent with her owner were truly special.

After seeing the response on Reddit to her post, CleverFox had something to say back to all of the well-wishings:

Thank you all for the wonderful comments, stories, and comfort you’ve provided. They’ve made me cry, laugh, smile, and wince. I’m so glad I was able to share her last night with all of you, and hopefully that helped you in some way. I also wanted to apologize for making so many of you cry! We often confuse endings with sadness. But, it does not mean it should be a sad/sob story. This is the tale of a happy story – a 16 year old beautiful dog that gave me so many wonderful memories. Now she is able to have a happy end to her life filled with ice cream, instead of discomfort and pain.

My dog’s name is Meeka and she is a husky/german-shepherd mix. She truly is an amazing dog…she use to be able to bark “I love you” and she could escape out of anything you could imagine(even a metal cage)! I feel so blessed to have spent 16 long years with her, but unfortunately it is now her time to run away to paradise. Meeka has forever left a paw print on my heart, and I will always love her.

Dogs are a wonderful gift and loving, loyal companions. CleverFox and all other dog owners out there are lucky to forge the friendships that they have with them. If you have known and loved a dog yourself, share this post in their memory.

Mario spent years cleaning this giraffe’s enclosure. The animal seemed to know he was in his final days.

This dying 54 year-old, known to the world as Mario, spent most of his life working at the Diergaarde Blijdorp zoo in Rotterdam, Holland. He cleaned the enclosures of the animals, becoming very close to them throughout the years. When he learned that he was dying, he had one final wish: to visit the zoo.
The Ambulance Wish Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping terminal patients achieve their dreams, helped him out.

The giraffe didn’t hesitate to get close to Mario, seemingly giving him a kiss goodbye and nuzzling him.

He spent the majority of his life working at the zoo, and was beaming to be surrounded by the creatures and people he loved.

Even animals know when it’s time to say goodbye. Mario was so lucky to be able to see all of his loved ones, human and otherwise, before he passed on.This moment was incredibly touching. Share it with others.
