The whole thing started because artisans and carpenters were forced to spend winters working only with the light form an oil lamp that hung from a wooden structure.

Once spring came back, the sun was out longer and the annoying lights weren’t needed anymore, so they did what anyone would do- they set them on fire. The burning lights were symbols of celebration of the arrival of spring.

After it began, things slowly got more extravagant, and in the 18th century parade floats became a major part of the festival.

During the festival, cartoon-like characters are made and paraded around Valencia before getting burned.

A lot of the sculptures poke fun at local politicians and Spanish celebrities. They take almost a year to create and cost around $75,000 per sculpture.

Each year one sculpture is picked to be saved from destruction and finds its home at the local Museum of the Ninot (Ninot is what the sculptures are called).

“La Crema,” also known as the burning, is done on the last day at exactly 12am.

Looks like one ‘hot’ time, don’t you think?

On the exam grade board at the bottom there is a student named “Helen Keller” who got an F.

Rob Lowe is uncredited in his role. He played Tommy’s brother just as a favor to his friend Chris Farley, since he was under contract to The Stand at the time.

Tommy graduates from Marquette, which is where Chris Farley actually went.

The waitress was originally supposed to be played by Roseanne Barr, but she had a scheduling conflict and couldn’t make it.

Richard says that Big Tom, played by Brian Dennehy, was like a father to him. Years later, Dennehy actually played Spade’s father on Just Shoot Me.

The story is actually based on Hamlet.

Peter Segal also directed Naked Gun 33 1/3 which is the preview showing in the hotel room.

David Spade refused to let the stylist touch his hair, which is why it was messy for most of the movie.

West Australian researchers found a use for these accessories since they aren’t worn on the heads of fashionable gals anymore. Their goofy-looking yet practical discovery might end up saving some lives of our animal pals.

West Australian researchers found that when a cat wears a scrunchie around its neck, it will have a far worse chance of killing birds, reptiles, and amphibians, among other wildlife.

This became a problem in Australia, to the point where lawmakers and members of wildlife preservation firms actually insisted that their citizens put scrunchies on their cats.

The research shows that birds can see the bright colors around the cat’s neck, thus alerting it to the danger that may come with being near it. Mice and other rodents don’t have the keen eyesight to notice these colors, so cats can still be used to ward off these pesky vermin.

Not only does this practice help preserve wildlife, it’s also pretty cute.

Who knew that such a simple fix could save so many lives? I’m sure the birds of Australia are thankful for this discovery, and I’m sure the makers of scrunchies are thankful as well. They’re back in business, baby!
