Today I’m going to show you my new project – Black Bar, Altai Republic, Russia.

It took me one year to make it, because I did everything with my own hands. I worked in different areas of art: mosaic, interior design, modelling, furniture design, woodwork, metalwork and others. I created not only the interior, but the bar story too.

“Basically tried to bucket them into ROYGBIV. I have no idea how many, but this took a bit of time.”

“Painted matte black with several cans of Rustoleum. The finish does not have to be perfect since it will be covered in epoxy.”

“This was taken immediately after the bar was put in it’s final position. It needs to be as close to perfectly level as possible, otherwise the epoxy resin will “pool” in low spots.”

At one point we attempted adhering them to the bar top with spray adhesive, but that ended up looking terrible not to mention messy.”

“Here you can see how we laid them out allowing the caps to “flow” into each other, rather than having hard color stops.”

“Here is the bar top after assembly. Two large pieces of quality 5/8″ plywood form the base. The rails are 1 1/2″ poplar, and were notched with a table saw and hand routed. The whole assembly was glued and nailed.”

“As mentioned before, we did not have an equal number of caps sorted by color. Since we had far more black, we needed a way to utilize them without the overall look becoming unbalanced. It took at least 4 hours and several restarts to get to this point.”

“It took ~5 layers to thoroughly cover the caps. The last layer we allowed it to flow over the sides to cover the rails, which made a helluva mess. Again, drop cloths are your friend.”

“The heat gun is used to pull the bubbles out. There may be a better way, but seems to be the most common found on the web.”

A drummer playing a show at a Washington D.C. bar learned the hard way that breaking wind can cost a lot of money.

The band had just got back on stage for the second half of their set when the drummer let one rip for all to smell. Apparently it was such a rancid fart that he had to crack a window. Seems reasonable, right? You know you’ve been there. However, him cracking the window turned out to be a costly mistake.

Washington D.C. law states that windows in bars must be closed past 1:30 AM if live music is being played. Because the drummer cracked a window past 1:30, the bar was given a ticket for $500. That’s a steep price for cutting the cheese. The owner of the bar was not a happy camper, but he does have the opportunity to appeal it.

There is a serious lesson that we can all take away from this, though. Never trust a fart.

Following in the footsteps of the popular owl cafes in Tokyo, Annie the owl and some of her friends will be spending a week in London as the gracious hosts of an owl pop-up bar that will be showing up at a secret location in London’s Soho neighborhood. Tickets cost 20 pounds for entry and two cocktails, but will be distributed by ballot because there are more than 43,000 people interested in visiting the owls!

The proceeds of the event, organized by Locappy, will be donated to the Barn Owl Centre, an organisation dedicated to protecting owls in the UK. The pop-up bar will be open March 19-25 from 8:30 PM until 2:00 AM.

Owls are nocturnal, so the cocktail bar in London will let visitors hang out with them at night

The owls will all be accompanied by professional falconers who will see to their comfort and safety

“The owls belong to a professional falconry center and are accustomed to being around the public,” write the organizers

“They have attended public events such as weddings before and, during the event, a professional falconer will accompany each owl”
