Matilda the cat’s giant eyes are a medical mystery

Megi7 — Mon, 15 Jun 2015 23:56:21 +0000

For anyone thinking that this photo is photoshopped, think again. This one-of-a-kind feline actually has enourmous eyes.

Although this may look like something out of a science fiction film, this is actually Matilda the cat and a rare disease is causing her eyes to continue growing in size, giving her an ‘alien’ like appearance. Before anyone gets too concerned, Matilda is still a happy, pain-free cat that who can still see just like any other cat out there.

Matilda has an ocular condition that has caused her lenses to detach from her eye. This has made her pupils disappear and her eyes continue to grow over the past year. Fortunately, the only pain that Matilda’s condition is causing is the inability to diagnose. It’s puzzling to all of the vets that she has been to and a diagnosis seems like it may never come. Despite the mystery, Matilda is still an extremely happy cat who has no qualms with her giant eyes.

The future may be unknown for Matilda, but as of right now she is enjoying the simple things in life. Hopefully an answer will come as to what this disease is so that Matilda can get the proper care that she needs.

Truths That Are Actually Stranger Than Fiction

The easy part about school is taking the facts the teacher tells you and regurgitating them come test time. But what about the facts you just can’t believe? We’re told to question everything, so it’s no surprise that there are some things out there that just can’t be real, no matter what anyone tells you. Somehow, these facts are true, proving once again you can’t believe everything you read (but who wants to do all that research?)

20 Things You Need To Know About Armenia

Megi7 — Wed, 15 Apr 2015 22:02:35 +0000

The Kardashian sisters visited their ancestral homeland last week to draw attention to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. But the country has plenty going on, even when it’s not being graced by some of the most famous members of its diaspora.

1. First things first: Armenia is a small, mountainous country in the South Caucasus.

It borders Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

2. Before gaining independence in 1991, Armenians lived under Ottoman and Russian rule, and the country was part of the Soviet Union.

The Soviet-era Mother Armenia statue that looks over Yerevan, the capital, symbolizes peace through strength, according to Armenian lore.

3. The Kardashian sisters visited to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, a defining event in Armenian history and identity.

4. They aren’t the only famous diaspora Armenians to stop by.

Cher, whose dad was Armenian-American, traveled to Armenia in 1993.

5. Armenia has a chilly relationship with some of its neighbors.

Armenia and Turkey aren’t on good terms, given the whole not-recognizing-the-genocide thing. Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a bloody war after the breakup of the Soviet Union, and both sides claim rights to Nagorno-Karabakh, an Armenian-controlled enclave that technically lies within Azerbaijan.

6. It was the first country in the world to officially adopt Christianity back in 301 AD.

7. It has some beautiful centuries-old churches.

8. Like this gorgeous old monastery.

9. And this one.

10. Not too shabby, right?

11. But Armenia can do modern, too. Anyone who’s been there knows its public fountain game is on point.

12. Armenians are REALLY into chess.

13. They’ve also got a super cool alphabet.

14. So cool there’s an actual monument dedicated to it…

15. …and they put it on their bread.

16. Armenia is well known throughout the region for its cognac…

17. …fresh fruit…

18. …and its traditional flatbread, called lavash.

19. The Armenian diaspora stretches across the globe.

20. Mount Ararat

Ararat is the national symbol of the Republic of Armenia

The Fact That These 25 Creatures Used To Roam The Earth Is Mind-Boggling… And Freaky. #9 = OMG.

Megi7 — Thu, 03 Apr 2014 22:02:18 +0000

Microraptor: Its name means “one who seizes.” It was a very small dinosaur and paleontologists have long debated the use of its four wings.

Paleontologists, scientists and other researchers have collected enough samples over the years to form some pretty solid theories about what kinds of creatures used to roam this earth. If you’ve ever seen Jurassic Park or have been to a natural history museum, you’d know that life here used to consist of three things: huge monsters, dangerous plants and quick deaths

Nyctosaurus: This ancient genus of Pterorsaur was found in the Mid-western sections of the US. The name means “naked reptile.”

Opabinia: This is one of the strangest creatures that ever lived. It had 30 flippers, 30 legs, a trunk-like nose and one lobster claw.

Phorusrhacidae: People know this creature as the “terror bird.” It was one of the largest predatory birds that ever lived and could run at speeds up to 40mph.

Pterodaustro: Also known as the Pterosaurs, it had a wingspan of 4 feet. It’s bristle-like teeth implies it probably fed on a diet of plankton and small crustaceans.

Quetzalcoatlus: This was the largest pterosaur in the sky, as big is a common African giraffe. Its wingspan was 30 whole feet.

Sharovipteryxe: Ths gliding reptile, found in Central Asia, was about one foot long. It would feed on insects and wasn’t capable of powered flight, it would just glide.

Stethacanthus: A type of extinct prehistoric shark, they would grow up to 6 feet long with a strange looking back growth on males.

Tanystropheus: Its name means “long necked one” and the prehistoric reptile was easily over 20 feet long.

Therizinosauridae: Or “reaper lizard,” may have been found in Mongolia, China, and the United States. Because they had long necks, pot bellies, four-toed feet, and beaky mouth, scientists weren’t sure if their parts belonged to one creature or several.

Archaeopteryx: The “first bird” supposedly existed during the Jurassic period, discovered in Germany in 1861.

Deinocheirus: There are only a handful of fossil remains of this creature, including two forelimbs and some vertebrae. Its name means “terrible hands.”

Deinotherium: The “hoe tusker” resembled a modern day elephant and were discovered at major hominid extinction sites at Lake Turkana in Kenya.

Dimorphodon: This flying creature had two distinct types of teeth in its jaw. It had great eyesight and huge claws for hunting.

Dunkleosteus: Or “Dunkle’s bone,” was one of the largest armored jaw fishes that ever existed. It was one of the fiercest predators in the ocean. It could be up to 10 meters long and weighed 3.6 tons.

Elasmosaur: This creature could be up to 46 feet in length (with most of its length in its neck). Its neck was 4x larger than a giraffe’s.

Epidendrosaurus: This was the first reptile to be closer ro a bird than a dinosaur. It was about 6 inches long, with clawed hands on its arms/wings.

Epidexipteryx: These small, feathered dinosaurs were found in the Inner Mongolia region of China. Their large display feathers were the earliest known representation of ornamental feathers in the fossil record.

Hallucigenia: A relative of modern arthropods, Hallucigenia is a strange creature only 3 millimeters long. It has a bulbous round head connected to its cylindrical trunk. It was an ancestor of today’s velvet worms.

Helicoprion: Also known as “spiral saw,” this shark-like cartilaginous fish appeared in the late Carboniferous era. The only evidence of its existence was a curled-up coil of triangular teeth. Some scientists think that it was used to grind shells, while others believed it to be a weapon.

Jaekelopterus: This sea scorpion was massive, at an estimated length of 2.5 meters. It was one of the largest arthropods ever discovered. It supposedly STILL exists in present day freshwater rivers and lakes in Germany.

Josephoartigasia: This capybara-like animal was the biggest rodent on the planet, weighing up to 1000kg.

Liopleurodon: This marine predator lived on a diet of fish, squid, and other sea reptiles. It was bigger than a sperm whale and its skull was nearly 1/4 of its body, filled with many smooth teeth.

Longisquama: This creature was known as the first archosaur to have been able to glide or parachute. It is known for its elongated pair of scales along its back, with the anterior ones resembling feathers.

Megalania: Otherwise known as the giant ripper lizard, it fed on a diet of mammals, snakes, other reptiles, and birds. A modern day relative would be the Komodo dragon that inhabits the Flores Islands in Indonesia.
