Emotional Olympian wins gold, takes off shoes and retires a champion

Megi7 — Tue, 09 Aug 2016 23:09:22 +0000

In Tuesday’s final for the men’s 62kg weightlifting event, Columbian Oscar Figueroa reminded us all why we watch the Olympics. After overcoming back surgery in January, Figueroa made his Olympic team and then made one of the most memorable gestures ever in the Olympics.

Figueroa managed to out lift his nearest competitor by 6 kg, securing his first ever gold medal.

Immediately overcome by emotions at his accomplishment, he removed his shoes and placed them in front of himself, a traditional gesture for a retiring athlete. He then humbly kissed the weights.

Figueroa roared one last mighty roar, bowed to the standing crowd, and walked off the floor a champion.

Once again overcome by emotion on the podium, he kissed his medal and cried tears of happiness.

Whole Foods’ Main Squeeze

Whole Foods has released what appears to be a kale- and quinoa-centric dating app, but sadly, when you click on the download button, it just takes you to its main app. The even more sad thing is that people who are whole foods addicts would actually use something like this. Mini-horses provide therapeutic benefits for people in need

Megi7 — Mon, 21 Sep 2015 22:02:51 +0000

Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses is a non-profit organization who works with 25 miniature horse, and over the past 20 years, they’ve helped thousands of people, including: survivors of the Sandy Hook shooting, victims of the 2013 Oklahoma tornadoes, as well as those in nursing homes and hospices.

Therapy Dogs are common companions, for those who have suffered a traumatic experience, but there’s also a lesser-known creature who makes a big impact — mini horses. At just two-and-a-half feet tall, they’re known for having a calm demeanor and soothing presence.

The animals’ small stature is a big part of their charm and ultimate success in providing therapy to those in need of a pick-me-up.

Magic, one of the organization’s more popular horses, is an all-black horse with a white spot on its snout. Time Magazine recognized her as one of the top 10 heroic animals in history.

There is even a case where a patient living in an assisted-living facility hadn’t talked in 3 years. As soon as the woman saw Magic, without missing a beat, she said, “Isn’t she beautiful?” Bringing all the doctors and nurses to tears.

Gentle Carousel is headquartered in Florida, but has expanded across the world. They have bases in New York, California, and Greece, where each is run entirely by volunteers.

A Dashcam Captured A Plane Crash That Sent A Horrifying Shock Down My Spine

Megi7 — Wed, 04 Feb 2015 23:57:42 +0000

This shocking dashcam video captured the moment a passenger plane crashed into a bridge and plunged into a river in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei on Wednesday morning.

Fifty-eight people were aboard TransAsia Airways Flight GE235 when it veered out of control as it flew to Kinmen, off the coast of the Chinese province of Xiamen. Rescuers were quick to arrive at the scene and scrambled to pull survivors from the submerged wreck of the ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop aircraft. So far, 31 have been confirmed dead, 15 injured (including two in a taxi that the plane hit on the bridge), and 12 are still missing.

The search and rescue effort continues.

According to Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration, the plane was less than a year old and had last completed a safety check on January 26th. The agency has yet to offer any information on what may have caused the crash.

This is the second crash of TransAsia Airways in the past 12 months, with another ATR 72 crashing during approach under horrible weather conditions last July.
