After American U-2 Spy plane nicknamed “Dragon Lady” was shot down by the Soviet Union during its reconnaissance mission in 1960, the CIA intended to improve a reconnaissance aircraft and make it really fast.
So, this story is about the Lockheed D-21 a.k.a. “Project Tagboard.”

What was the mission of the D-21? It was a spy plane with the capability of speeds over Mach 3. Equally impressive, considering that development began in 1962, the D-21 is not piloted…it’s a drone.

The concept was to carry a single high-resolution photographic camera over a preprogrammed path, then release the camera module into the air for retrieval, after which the drone would self-destruct.

The D-21 was launched from a variant of the SR-71 Blackbird called the “M-12” (D- for “daughter” and M- for “mother”).

Four operational missions with the D-21B took place under the codename of “Senior Bowl”. These were conducted over the People’s Republic of China from November of 1969 to March of 1971, to spy on the “Lop Nor” nuclear test site.

The Chinese never spotted the D-21B. The first mission failed to turn around and continued straight on, crashing somewhere in the Soviet Union.

Another test flight was conducted on February 20, 1970 in a successful attempt to correct any problems. The second operational mission, however, was not until December 16, 1970. The D-21B reached Lop Nor and back to the recovery point, but the hatch had a partial parachute failure and was lost at sea with its photographs.

Following the fatal accident when launched from the M-21 Blackbird, the D-21 was modified to be launched from a Boeing B-52 Stratofortress.

During the third operational mission, on March 4th 1971, the D-21B flew to Lop Nor and returned. This time its parachute deployed but the mid-air recovery team failed to reach the photos before they sank again.

The fourth, and last, operational flight of the D-21B was on 20 March 1971. It was lost over China on the final segment of the route over China’s Yunnan province.

Unfortunately the wreckage was found by China’s local authorities. In 2010, after being in the junkyard of China Aviation Museum for years, the wreckage was moved to the exhibition area.

On July 23, 1971 the D-21B program was canceled due to its poor success rate.
That’s what was attached to the SR-71 Blackbird.

This is Glenn Buratti, a 6-year-old from Osceola County, Florida. He has mild autism and epilepsy. Earlier this month, his mom Ashlee threw him a birthday party, inviting 16 children from his class. No one showed up.

After posting on the group, 15 children from the area and their parents turned up, but not just them.

Firefighters and police officers from the community started pulling up to the house.

With presents!

Crews from the Sheriff’s Office and Osceola County Fire Rescue gave Glenn the superstar treatment.

“I’m sure the neighbors were peeking out of their windows or taking cover,” Glenn’s dad John wrote on Facebook.

“Such an amazing thing for our local law enforcement and fire fighters to do for us,” he wrote.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s office even flew a helicopter low enough over Glenn’s party that the pilot was able to wave at him.

Sometimes when you ask the internet for help they actually come through!

More than 350 starving, neglected and abused dogs were rescued from one of the biggest dog fighting ring raids in history. The horrifying abuse spanned across Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. You could tell that unspeakable things were done to these dogs just by looking at them. One of the youngest

One of the youngest dogs rescued, an 8 week-old, was treated so poorly he has become the poster puppy for abused animals with the ASPCA. Just looking at Timmy Cooper’s face in these photos will break you heart, but his story has a much happier ending than you could imagine.

The Humane Society of the United States and The ASPCA worked with the government to complete the huge raid.

Timmy was just one of the hundreds of dogs that were saved from a terrible fate. The life he endured was cruel.

Multiple people were responsible for the mistreatment of these animals.

This was the ad that featured Timmy on the day he was rescued.

This pup needed out.

And he couldn’t be happier to be rescued from his prison.

Ten suspects were arrested and indicted on felony dogfighting charges.

Bodies of dead animals were found all over these properties.

Luckily, Timmy escaped that fate.

He was then moved to the Humane Society of Calvert County in Maryland, which took care of him on behalf of the ASPCA.

Now?

He couldn’t be happier!

Timmy learned to trust humans, was great with kids and was ready for his forever home.

Unfortunately, court proceedings dragged out the process of getting TImmy officially adopted.

It’s been a long journey for this pup and the other rescued dogs, but now they are getting the happiness they truly deserve.

Nine months after the dogs were rescued, 10 of 14 defendants have pleaded guilty. Most of the dogs are either adopted or are in the process of finding good homes.
