The Village includes 50 tiny homes, each about the size of a studio apartment. Veterans are then provided with all the essential needs for daily life for absolutely free. Occupants also get a sense of privacy, security, and stability in their lives, to which these veterans couldn’t be more thankful. The project is still under construction as a community center, which will host classes and counseling aimed at helping veterans readjust to their lives and cope with trauma, will be completed in the coming months.

The Veterans Community Project is on a mission to eliminate veteran homelessness by providing transitional housing and enabling access to exceptional 360-degree service solutions.

Each tiny house costs about $10,000 to produce, making the village space and cost-effective.

Veterans couldn’t be happier with their new digs.

This community isn’t the first of it’s kind, as a similar village was constructed in 2013 in Olympia, Washington, for homeless community members. Fingers crossed communities like these continue to develop throughout the country.

But revolutionary “vertical forests” will help freshen things up. They also look rad as hell.

The Nanjing Towers, designed by Italian architect Stefano Boe, will be completed in 2018. The surfaces of the overgrown towers are covered in 2,500 shrubs and over 1,000 trees, churning out around 132 pounds of oxygen everyday.

Will that help make any significant difference in China’s rapidly-increasing pollution problem? I have no idea! I just like posting cool pictures, man.

The balconies offer gorgeous views of lush, sprawling forests towering over an otherwise industrial cityscape.

The taller tower contains a museum, a rooftop club, a green architecture school, and offices, while the smaller tower will house a 247-room Hyatt hotel and a rooftop pool.

Boe has designed a similar project set to be be built Lausanne, Switzerland:

Margera, of “Viva La Bam” fame, notoriously built a skatepark in his parents home when they were gone on vacation. The architects at WMR have gone a step above by constructing Casa Merello, a magnificent beachfront property with a halfpipe smack dab in the middle of it.

The home would be a beauty even without the skateboarders’ paradise, but with it the home turns into a boarder and surfers dream.

It is located on the Pacific Ocean in the resort town of Pichilemu, which is located in the central part of the country southwest of the capital city of Santiago.

Casa Merello is lifted with V-shaped pillars which protects it from high tides and other natural occurrences that happen when living so close to the ocean.

The entire home has floor to ceiling glass enabling it to have panoramic views of the ocean and other surroundings.

The halfpipe is surrounded by a massive deck with sliding glass doors.

Not a bad view either.

Entering the capital city of Pyongyang, visitors pass through the Arch of Reunification. The two women holding a conjoined North and South Korea symbolize supreme leader Kim Il Sung’s vision for the two countries.

Immediately, visitors are struck by the Workers’ Party Monument. The outer belt reads, “Long live the Workers’ Party of Korea, the organizer and guide of all victories of the Korean people!”

Downtown Pyongyang’s skyline is punctuated by the 105-story Ryugyong Hotel, currently the tallest abandoned building in the world. It hasn’t had any work done on it since 1992.

On the other side of the city, the 558-feet-tall Juche Tower looms above the Taedong River.

Some of North Korea’s most impressive (and intimidating) architecture lives in the city center, such as the sprawling Manyongdae Children’s Palace. It features two “arms” meant to imitate a mother’s embrace.

North Korea doesn’t have enough of its own electricity, so at night the entire country goes pitch black. What little remains goes toward illuminating a picture of the country’s founder, Kim Il-Sung.

These buildings wouldn’t be possible without the thousands of laborers who are forced to work long hours to build them.

The conditions are often poor, if not downright treacherous.

Much of the country’s architecture is meant to honor North Korea’s leaders, Kim Il-Sung, who led between 1972 and 1994, and Kim Jong Il, who followed Sung until his own death in 2011.

The two men are proudly memorialized all around Pyongyang, most obviously at the People’s Grand Assembly Hall.

Nearby is the Fatherland Liberation War Museum, which celebrates Korea’s victory over the imperialist American forces during the Korean War.

One building in central Pyongyang reads, “The great comrades Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il will be with us forever.”

Disregarding the blatant propaganda, there are many aspects of North Korean architecture that are genuinely impressive. The metro station is among the most ornate in the world.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, North Korea is also home to the largest sports arena in the world, May Day Stadium.

Filled to capacity, it’s capable of holding 150,000 people. Most often, it’s used for the annual Mass Games, which pay tribute to the country’s history.

Amid the bleakness of everyday life, people also manage to find time to have fun at the Munsu Water Park.

Science also plays a big role in North Korea. The Sci-Tech Complex, for example, was built in the shape of an atom and opened in early 2015.

The country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, has said he hopes the center will help “advance the establishment of a rich and powerful fatherland through the locomotive of science and technology.”

The structure joins the Mirae Scientists Street, which North Korea wants to use as its hub for becoming a global force in innovation.

Some apartment buildings sport solar panels.

Many of the buildings stand out for their bold color palettes and industrial feel.

But others, like the Wonsan Baby Home and Orphanage, opt instead for bright pastels.

Completed in June of 2015, the home is spread across several floors. Its blues and yellows stand in stark relief to the concrete that dominates so much of North Korea’s landscape.

Whatever bright spots there may be, from far away the skyline clearly reveals North Korea’s obsession with power and might.

As you approach the giant carved front door of this house, you’ll notice it’s made of Brazilian mahogany, that was designed in a traditional Native American theme. Both the outer and inner doors depict animals of the region including salmon, coyotes, and eagles.

Inspired by nature and built to reflect the beauty of the land, this 8,880 sq. ft. home is itself a piece of art. Completed in 2016, the entire structure is built with rounded edges and graceful curves to reflect the organic flow of natural surfaces. Step inside into a one-of-a-kind foyer with a granite floor reminiscent of the sandy shore at the edge of a river. Above, the ceiling is tiled in a beautiful blue stone the color of the open sky.

As you move forward from the door you’ll see a custom-designed hardwood floor that flows like water.

Instead of normal railings, these stairs are flanked by intricately hand-carved bannisters that look like they’re growing right out of the steps.

Light cascades in from the giant glass window as you follow the winding stairs higher and higher.

The fireplace in the living room itself is an incredible spectacle, inlaid with a glass mosaic of two dragons intertwined, their bodies creating the shape of a heart.

A number of windows here and throughout the house are in the shape of clouds, which again gives off the feel of nature inside.

Upstairs, the master suite overlooks the valley with incredible views from a wall of windows.

The cedar ceiling gives the room the feeling of a spacious treehouse with the most spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.

And the cost of this beauty you ask? Well as of now it will set you back about 8.2 million dollars.

This incredible feat of structural engineering is adored by people all around the world. Ever since it was completed on March 31, 1889, tourists have been traveling thousands of miles to see it. But how much do they really know about the giant hunk of metal? Aside from the fact that it’s incredibly tall, probably not much. So today, on its 126th birthday, we thought it would be the perfect occasion to consider the interesting ,and at times odd, history of this amazing landmark.

1. Construction on the tower began on January 26, 1887, and took two years, two months, and five days to complete.

2. It is 324 feet tall and is made up of 18,038 metallic parts and 7,300 tons of iron.

3. Painting the tower required 60 tons of paint (and it still needs a fresh coat every seven years).

4. It is named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel.

5. Gustave Eiffel also designed the Statue of Liberty.

6. The tower cost eight million francs to build (that’s over 34 million in current U.S. dollars), most of which was provided by Eiffel and the French government.

7. Many artists and architects in Paris protested the construction of the tower, and even wrote a petition against it.

8. The tower was initially only supposed to stand for 20 years.

9. It was important to early radiophonic experiments which is why it remained standing. It also played a huge part in the beginnings of French television.

10. In 1889, a newspaper set up a printing press in the tower, presenting certificates to those who made it up.

11. In 1905, L’Equipe held a race up to the first floor. The winner, whose time was three minutes and 12 seconds, won a bike.

12. Léon Collot, an aviator, was killed while attempting to fly under the Eiffel Tower. After becoming lost in the glare of the sun, he hit television antennas.

13. At the First Battle of the Marne in 1914, the tower facilitated an allied victory when one of its transmitters halted the German advance by blocking their radio signals.

14. For its 75th anniversary, there was a televised broadcast of mountaineers climbing up the tower.

15. When it gets cold the tower actually shrinks about six inches.

16. The tower sways and leans in high winds and heat, sometimes as much as 18 centimeters.

17. Between 1925 and 1934 French car manufacturer Citroen used the tower as a giant billboard, achieving a world record for the largest advertisement.

18. Used for entertaining friends and family, Gustave Eiffel had a small apartment on the third floor of the tower.

19. There are 1,665 steps to the top of the tower. Luckily, there’s an elevator nowadays.

20. A con artist sold the tower for scrap metal twice. The buyers were obviously disappointed.

21. In 1984, two Britons parachuted from the tower without permission. Parisian authorities were not pleased.

22. For the landmark’s centennial, tightrope walker Philipe Petit walked the 2,296 feet between the Palais de Chaillot and the Eiffel Tower.

23. Hugues Richard climbed the tower on his mountain bike in 2002, breaking his own 1998 record.

24. The tower is an extremely popular tourist attraction, though most of the visitors are in fact French.

25. Seven million people visit the Eiffel Tower every year.

26. In 2010, the tower celebrated its 250 millionth visitor.

27. Every night, the tower is illuminated by 20,000 lightbulbs.

28. The tower actually uses the same amount of electricity as a small village annually.

29. It is covered with 50 miles of electric cables.

30. If you’re looking for a real fine dining experience, the tower is home to the internationally renowned Jules Verne restaurant.

A Pennsylvania native and longtime collector of brewery memorabilia, used over 35 years-worth of beer cans to line the walls of his hotel. The Brewhouse Mountain Eco-Inn in scenic York Haven, Pennsylvania (population: 709), boasts of its 82,291 cans of beer that line the wall.

The inn maintains five private bedrooms — each featuring cans from a specific country or region — which can be rented as a whole ($379/nt), or by the room ($75/nt). The owner was proud to note that he has used every can he collected since he was just 13 years old. Of course, I’m sure he wasn’t drinking any of them then, you know, because that would be illegal.
