Mayra Rosales weighed over 1,000 pounds at her heaviest.

That’s almost as much as a fully-grown grizzly bear.

Mayra had no mobility whatsoever. Chains, supporters, hoists, and lifts were used just for basic bathing.

She decided to do something about it though. She underwent a surgery that would help her get back to health.

It worked! Through extensive surgeries, Mayra had dramatic changes and was able to walk for the first time in years. These were just the first steps on the way to achieving…

This. After extensive exercise and healthy dieting, Mayra Rosales can not only walk and bathe by herself, she also discovered that she’s very pretty, and feels confident about her new looks.

She no longer weighs as much as a grizzly bear.

In fact, she weighs one fifth of her previous weight.

With a porcelain pot, patience, and heaps of talent, Chinese artist Johnson Tsang was able to express “how [he felt] about [his] country”. Following in the footsteps of other great pottery artists, Tsang showcased the true beauty of his process by taking step-by-step pictures until the final product is revealed. Impressive, to say the least.

On buildings across the world, children are peering off into rainbow-colored alternate universes, or poking their heads through some kind of barrier into a world beyond this one. They seem to be captured in the moment right before they step through, into a dream world, into adulthood, or into the future.

These are the murals of a French street artist and muralist who goes by the name of Seth Globepainter, whose work can be found across Europe and Asia, in public spaces, decorating the walls of buildings, and even within private homes. His fantastical, cartoonish style has a playful, approachable feeling, but there’s an ambiguity to the work that makes you wonder about it for a moment longer than simply appreciating the bright colors and unique style.

Repeated imagery in the murals includes pensive or sleeping children, and children looking through what appear to be portals into another realm. This concept of the borders of perception is also seen in his combination of black-and-white work with areas of bright, vibrant color. All of his work seems to suggest looking beyond the immediate and physical to a world of brighter color and, possibly, better worlds. Many times, the figures’ backs are turned to us, the viewers, and seem to be more concerned with the worlds opened up by Globepainter rather than ours.

This mural is actually inside someone’s house. The owner of the house is named Thiam.

Not all of his murals deal with those themes, but they still have the bright, optimistic feeling and rainbow palette. The murals are charming and appealing, but they also speak to a deeper understanding of human growth and shaping of the world, as well as common experiences across lands and cultures.

Everyone remembers their first video game console. Whether it was a Telstar, Atari or Nintendo, you probably hold that system very near and dear to your heart. In the past, video games were so cutting edge, most kids would kill to play them for hours on end. I still fondly look back on old games systems with their blurry graphics and clunky controllers. I’m not saying I would necessarily trade a contemporary console for an old one, but I have no problem with being a little nostalgic.

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is one of the most recognized game consoles from the early days of at-home gaming. Miller Woodshop decided to do something inventive with the game console’s simple controller design.

This table is handmade and was crafted to the exact specs of the NES controller. Only, you know, a lot bigger.

This gigantic controller certainly adds a new element to playing those old Nintendo games. You probably need at least two people to work the controls.

An item like this would certainly show a true fan’s love and nostalgia for this old system. Even though it’s not the prettiest controller, it was what every gamer had to own during its time.

On the outside, this looks like a typical fishing shack sitting on a lake.

What Lurks Below
But below it is an underwater bedroom.

The Idea
Mikael Genberg came upon the idea unexpectedly, but was worried that it would not catch on.

Sleep With The Fishes
The bedroom is totally submerged with so you are literally sleeping with the fishes.

Peaceful
Away from anyone else on work except for nature.

Attracts Thousands
At $400 to $500 per night stay, it can be pricey, but the thousands of visitors that this little shack attracts say it’s well worth it.

 Seasonal
The hotel operates from April/May through September.

The Design
The two level design looks like this. The top half floats on the water, while the bottom half, accessible by a hole in the floor and a ladder, is completely submerged under the lake.

Installation
Here we see the lake house being submerged in the lake.

 A Room With A View
With windows on all sides, guests can view life underwater and feel like they are truly living down there.

Her mother had to help get her going at the begging of the day…

Like any mother would,  Janice Di Joseph wants to give her daughter the best life she can. Putting a smile on Ricchina’s face is an important part of Janice’s day. The only thing that’s a little different about this mother-daughter relationship is that Ricchina has Down Syndrome.
Over the years, Janice’s little girl began to notice she was different than her peers. After attending other weddings with her mother, Ricchina would ask why she wasn’t getting married. Janice would never know what to say, so she decided to give her baby girl the wedding she always wanted for her 25th birthday.
The pair happened to bump into Lindsay Morris, a photographer, on the train. When she discovered what this mother was doing for her daughter, she just had to photograph it. The moments she captured were absolutely magical.

On the big day, Ricchina got ready at a friend’s salon in south Philadelphia.

She posed, ready for some beautification.

When she saw her hair and makeup in the mirror for the first time, she just had to laugh.

Her family were in tears, happy to see their Ricchina about to celebrate a wedding.

But once she was dressed, all Ricchina could do was admire her reflection.

Before heading downstairs, mother and daughter share a moment together.

Janice nervously calls the late limo driver…

And then it’s time. Her neighbors showed up to see her off.

The wedding was traditional, even down to the garter that Ricchina had seen many times.

They had a head table, full of food and family.

And Ricchina and Janice even had a touching first dance to “Endless Love.”

It’s wonderful. Individuals with Down Syndrome and other disabilities should be treated with the same love and respect that everyone else is.
