Mall Santa Goes The Extra Mile For An Autistic Boy

This mall Santa went above and beyond to deliver some holiday cheer to an autistic boy that really needed it. He would make the real Santa proud.

We’ve all witnessed those screaming kids who don’t want to tell Santa what they want for Christmas. However, for a child with autism, they’re not just a little nervous-they’re terrified. The crowds, the lights and the noise can be very difficult for them to take on.
When the parents of 6-year-old Brayden found out he had autism, they figured getting a traditional Christmas photo of him and Santa would be next to impossible. They were wrong.

This year, they got their perfect Christmas shot in a much better way than they could have ever imagined for the second year in a row. Caring Santa, organized by the group Autism Speaks, came to Charlotte, North Carolina to give Brayden and other children with autism the chance to spend some quality time with good ol’ St. Nicholas. It wasn’t a normal sit-on-the-lap kind of thing, though. The stores were already closed when Brayden stepped through the door, and the warm-up time was as long as he wanted.
Brayden’s mom Erin Deely said, “They let you take all the time you need to warm up to Santa, so Brayden started out far away. He knew who Santa was, but he was shy.”

After a few minutes passed, Santa brought out a snow globe, put it next to Brayden and then sat back in his chair. When Brayden crawled over to play with it, Santa laid down on his belly and joined him.
Deely said,”They didn’t even talk to each other, really, they just bonded and played, and Brayden started to really be excited and started looking at him and smiling.”

Autism Speaks executive Lisa Goring explained that the organization creates a controlled environment so that hanging out with Santa can be a stress-free experience for everyone involved.
“We know for some kids with autism, the idea of going into a mall and an environment they’re not used to has a lot of sensory challenges,” she said.

Caring Santa has 120 locations, and many of the serving Santas already act the role for the malls, but they receive additional training through the program and learn how to connect with autistic children. Goring said, “It’s a great way for families to experience a holiday tradition,” and Deely agreed.
After about 20 minutes with Santa, Brayden even dished out a high-five for the jolly guy. Deely said, “At the end, he didn’t want to leave. He kept saying, ‘More Santa.’”

Two and a half years ago Redditor capgunbandit weight 366 lbs. He had been overweight his entire life and dreamed of joining the military then becoming a police officer, firefighter, or paramedic. He knew that he would never get there if he didn’t make a change.

His uncle got him into weightlifting and after the first month he lost 6 lbs.

He kept going and started educating himself about nutrition.

Now at 192 lbs, he has achieved his goal.

Hard work and dedication can go a long way. Congrats on the transformation!

The husband of the year award goes to this guy

This past week, Reddit user Victoknight (We’ll call him Victor for short), got the chance to be husband of the year and save one of his wife’s most prized possessions. You see, his wife dropped her engagement ring and it bounced directly into a vent, leaving it unretrievable by standard methods. Instead of calling a professional, “Victor” took it upon himself to come up with a way to get the ring back. I mean, he paid for it anyways, right?

Quick on his feet, “Victor” came up with this crazy contraption, attaching a webcam and a flashlight to a tape measure, which was stable enough to hold the two devices with ease.

As you can see, he attached the webcam to his computer so that he could get a live feed of the journey into the vent. As simple as this all looks, it’s quite the idea. With his custom rig all set to go, “Victor” could begin his descent.

After a few minutes searching, “Victor” was able to spot the ring sitting at the bottom of the vent.

Keeping the camera rig pointed at the ring, “Victor” grabbed a hanger, bent the tip, and fished the ring out for his wife. After all of that work, he came out successful, leaving his wife a very happy camper. We can neither confirm or deny exactly what happened after the whole ordeal, but we can assume that there was at least some sort of a “happy ending”. Regardless, this guy deserves a serious round of applause.

Gregory digs through illegally dumped trash and goes dumpster diving.

Gregory Kloehn goes dumpster diving, but not for the reason that most people would think. He isn’t homeless. In fact, he is an artist from Oakland that is trying to help the homeless and develop his craft at the same time.
Instead of building sculptures that he would sell to rich people to add to their massive homes, he decided to focus his efforts on helping house the homeless population in California.

He uses what he collects to build small, one room shelters for the homeless.

And his homelessness project is getting attention.

Not only from the media, but from the people he helps as well.

The “little homeless homes” are about the size of the sofa.

But, something that small can mean the world to someone living on the streets.

Each of the homes are built with a pitched roof, so rain will run right off of them.

They also have wheels, so their owners will be able to wheel them around if they need to.

The foundation he usually uses are discarded wooden pallets.

At first, as an artist, he made sculptures.

But peddling his creations got old.

Since he focused on housing, Gregory knows what he creates is being used.

A homeless woman he knows well, Wonder, raves about what he does.

The small shelter Gregory built for her was the best house she’s had in 5 years.

He published a book titled “Homeless Architecture.”

His focus seems to be on helping them build homes…

Even when they don’t have a conventional “house” to work with.

At first he was just building tiny homes to sell.

One day, a homeless man came by his studio asking for a tarp.

All Gregory had was a tiny wooden frame he was working on, equipped with a built-in kitchen, water tank and a small trap for human waste.

He then realized… it was a home that this man could use.

Someone could use it and it would change their life.

He can’t build houses for all of Oakland’s homeless.

However, he doesn’t intend to stop building any time soon.

He’s thought about starting classes, teaching others how to make them. “A lot of people who hear about what I’m doing want to get involved,” he said. “Maybe we meet someplace and put a couple homes together.”

This artist uses trash to change people’s lives. It’s absolutely brilliant. If more people could learn how to create these tiny homes for others, the impact could be huge. Strangers have come forward on his Facebook page to donate money to what Gregory is doing.
