This is thanks to Cassini’s “ring-grazing” mission that involves the probe making orbital dives past the outer edge of Saturn’s main ring system. This is one of Cassini’s final missions as the 20-year-old spacecraft will soon expire, plunging into the gassy planet this September.

“How fitting it is that we should go out with the best views of Saturn’s rings we’ve ever collected,” says Cassini Imaging Team Lead Carolyn Porco from the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado.

And he’s right, this is the first chance we’ve had to see the main rings with such high-definition.

The images resolve details as small as 0.3 miles, which is about the size of some of Earth’s tallest buildings.

In this image you can see Saturn’s A ring. It’s the outermost of the structures and it lies about 83,574 miles from Saturn.

The rippled appearance is a density wave and is made up of icy particles that form shapes that scientists informally refer to as “straw.”

This is Saturn’s outer B ring.

As great as the new pictures are, things are only going to get more amazing as Cassini gets closer to its final mission phase.

They’re calling it the Grand Finale, and it’s basically the space probe’s “death spiral” that will begin on April 26th. Cassini will dive through the gap between the planet and its rings.

The spacecraft will get a final look at the innermost rings and the planet’s gas clouds before one final orbit that ends with Cassini plunging into Saturn’s upper atmosphere and burning up like a meteor.

The reason for the fiery death and not a prolonged retirement of exploring more of Saturn and its moons is that NASA thinks that two of Saturn’s moons, Enceladus and Titan, feature habits that could possibly sustain life.

Just in case there are alien organisms living on them, NASA doesn’t want to jeopardize them by bringing microbes from Earth that could still be surviving on the probe– even though that possibility is slim.

While it will be sad to lose the veteran Cassini, we’re all looking forward to the amazing observations it provides in its Grand Finale.

Rogue Planets are planets that do not orbit a star and float through the emptiness of space. There are potentially billions of rogue planets in our galaxy, the Milky Way.

300 million years ago a dragonfly lived called Meganeura and had a wingspan that was over 2 feet wide. In fact, there are many extinct versions of modern species that were terrifyingly large.

The moon is slowing down the Earth’s rotation. Every century, a day on Earth becomes 1.7 milliseconds longer. This means that 350 million years ago, a year had 385 days because the Earth rotated faster.

Certain varieties of oranges that grow close to the equator are actually green even when fully ripe. This is because there is more direct sunlight and warmth so the fruit retains its green chlorophyll. Because consumers won’t buy green oranges, ethylene gas, cold shocking, or wax are used to get rid of the chlorophyll to make the oranges orange.

There are two correct plural terms for “penis”: “penises” and “penes.”

Penises get smaller if you smoke.

Smoking calcifies blood vessels, constricting blood flow and making members shrink up to 1 centimeter.

Babies can get boners in the womb.

So can corpses. Not in the womb. Just after…well you get it.

“Die Hard,” Yah that just happened.

Good-looking men have stronger sperm.

During a study in Spain women were shown pictures of men and asked to rank them according to their attractiveness. The men that the women found to be the best looking were most often the best sperm producers.

The largest penis in the world is 13.5 inches.

Statistically speaking, men’s dissatisfaction with their penis size has nothing to do with the size of their penis.

30% of men are unhappy with the size of their penis (compared to 35% who are satisfied with their dick size) and those 30% are not necessarily those with smaller members.

Shoe size does not determine penis size.

Diet affects the taste of semen, and asparagus isn’t the worst offender.

Turns out red meat and dairy are the worst foods to eat if you want your sperm to taste okay. They make the situation taste saltier and generally less palatable.

Doctors can grow skin grafts for burn victims out of the foreskin of circumcised infants.

“One foreskin can produce 23,000 square meters, which would be enough to tarp every Major League infield with human flesh.” Hooray for science…and for that visual!

The penis’s sensitivity declines with age, beginning at around the 25th year.

Doctors say that older men are far more likely to complain of erectile dysfunction and difficulty ejaculating than the loss of sensitivity to their member.

Penises are twice as long as you think they are.

According to MRI imaging, half of a man’s penis is actually inside of his body. The full dick is a boomerang shape when having sex in the missionary position.

A man ejaculates an average of 7,200 times during his lifetime.

According to a global 2007 World Health Organization survey, 30% of men over the age of 15 are circumcised.

Approximately 80% of American men, however, are circumcised. America’s obsession with circumcision began in the 19th century as a way to try to prevent masturbation.

King Louis XVI of France helped make circumcision trendy.

Semen is low in calories.

A teaspoon of semen has been found to have anywhere between 5 to 25 calories per serving. It’s comprised of citric acid, amino acids, fructose, enzymes, and water.

A man has, on average, 11 erections per 24-hour period.

One testicle hangs lower than the other so that they don’t hit together.

On average, intercourse lasts 2 minutes and 50 seconds.

On average, there are at least 100 million acts of sexual intercourse each day.

Germany gets the most penis enlargement procedures in the world.

According to the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 18% of all penis enlargements in the world are done in Germany. Venezuela, Spain, and Mexico are the runners-up.

There are, indeed, two types of penises: show-ers and growers.

“Grower” penises elongate and expand when getting an erection, while “show-ers” remain relatively the same size when flaccid or erect. According to a Men’s Healthinternational survey, 79% of men report that they are “growers” whereas 21% are “showers.”

Everyone knows that feeling when you’re about half-way through your morning coffee and then immediately looking for the bathroom. This happens because coffee helps stimulate muscle contractions in your large intestine and next thing you know, BOOM!

Morning wood, scientifically known as nocturnal penile tumescence, serves to stretch out the two sponge-like areas that cause erections. For healthy men it is natural to have this happen 3-5 times a night.

Your two nostrils are a team that work together to help you breathe, but they split the workload. Even when you’re not sick, one nostril is doing more work than the other. Your autonomic nervous system, which takes care of things you don’t consciously control, will switch this for you.

Your brain makes you throw up because it thinks it’s being poisoned. When you throw up there are three main reasons why: irritation of your brain, irritation of your stomach, or irritation of your hormones. Your brain gets irritated when the fluid in your brain and your inner ears are different and might eject your stomach’s contents.

Everyone has held in some gas now and again, but can it do damage to you? Holding in a fart can cause bloating and other uncomfortable symptoms, but worst of all it can cause hemorrhoids or even a distended bowel. But don’t worry, because you’ll release the gas as soon as you fall asleep before any of these things occur.

Your hair actually has no color to it at all. Hair color depends on pigment secretion and this is why it might change over time. When your body ages, it slowly stops producing the pigment and the hair returns to its natural state. Some people’s bodies stop producing the pigment sooner than others.

Well, that’s because you consumed a shit-ton of alcohol. When you drink alcohol it makes you pee more and in turn dehydrates you. Along with that, alcohol slows down the rate that the stomach empties itself and increases production of stomach acids, which can lead to nausea. Drinking also causes blood vessels to dilate producing that pounding headache.

Sweaty palms can be caused by two things: emotional stress and your body trying to regulate its temperature. When you get nervous, scared, or excited your sympathetic nervous system will stimulate Eccrine glands on your face, palms, armpits, and more.

People once believed if you peed in the pool that it would create a toxic chemical called cyanogen chloride, which is similar to tear gas. The amount of chlorine needed for this reaction would probably melt your skin, so it’s safe to say you can pee in the pool. Still, I’m not saying you should.

The reasons why you uncontrollably sing are more based on theory. People feel relaxed and comfortable in the shower and they’re also alone (well, sometimes). When your body is physically comfortable, you become for mentally comfortable making you more apt to sing. Another theory is that everything surrounding you creates a great acoustic environment that makes your voice seem fuller.

Einstein’s Logic Crushed by Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan bravely questions Einstein’s theory of insanity. Lindsay’s theory of persistence flies right in the face of Einstein’s revolutionary idea. She has consistently proven, with verifiable evidence, that if you do drugs and other things that she did, probably did, most likely did; you will warp the fabric of space in such a manner that lands you in jail. Who would have thought? It’s just so crazy, it may be true.

The John Mayer Foundation for Reason & Science
As part of his ongoing research with world renowned biologist, Richard Dawkins; John Mayer has been tirelessly choosing his words wisely in the hopes of eliminating racism. Some experts are skeptical about Mayer’s credentials. But the fruits of his labor prove that playing guitar really well, and making a lot of faces when you do it, makes you good at not making people mad when you say stuff. Excellent work!

Chris Brown & Brian Cox: Best Friends and Also Scientists.
When artist, and excellent source of enthusiasm, Chris Brown, met physicist, Brian Cox, it wasn’t just particle beams colliding! It was the start of a great friendship based on their mutual endeavors to understand the origins of the universe. We may never fully understand the big bang, but with Chris Brown and Brian Cox at the helm, we’re well on our way!

Spray Tans: Not Just For Scientists
Snooki has been on sabattical to write the follow up to her brilliant first work. Some may think Snooki’s discoveries were just a matter of beginner’s luck. But if her love of Benjamin Franklin is any indicator, we think in Snooki’s case, lightning just might strike twice. Keep it up, Snooks!

Women in Science: The Story of Lady Gaga
Most people know Lady Gaga for her completely original recordings of Madonna songs. On her days on, Lady Gaga likes to emulate the no-nonsense style of the groundbreaking physicist and chemist, Marie Curie. Way to advance the role of women in the scientific community, Miss Gaga!

Science: Leave it to Bieber
You can thank Albert Einstein for the wonderful role model that Justin Beiber has worked so hard to become. Bieber has studied the work of Einstein for his entire life, even before he was born. We should all be so studious.

Amanda Bynes: Great Person? Or The Greatest Person?
We so happy to finally see a well known actress with some true class. Amanda Bynes can thank Issac Newton for her incredible negotiating and linguistic skills. Fun Fact: she also won the national spelling bee every day for the past 11 years. Keep it up, Amanda!

Lautner Learns from Carl Sagan
Thanks to the late astronomer and astrophysicist, Carl Sagan, Taylor Lautner has grown from whatever he was in Twilight into the strikingly fine young man he is today. The star graciously demonstrates the importance of non-violence. And he doesn’t make any money at all from doing it.

Miley Cyrus: Philanthropist. Leader. Knows About Science.
If only we could all walk the path of altruism like Miley Cyrus. Of course we all know Miley to be a master of the arts. But few of us have been privileged enough to witness her quiet quest for the well being of all mankind.

A Lesson from Kim Kardashian
Kim demonstrates the value of a non-materialistic lifestyle. Founding father, Benjamin Franklin, not only discovered the magic of electricity. He inspired the stars themselves. Kim Kardashian, you are a beacon of hope in this dark, dark world.

From Kanye to Kaku
Kanye West sets a fine example in this photo of him working for peace and social justice. He is for sure, like super into the legendary Michio Kaku. May we all strive to follow in the footsteps of Kanye.

 The Genius of Sheen
Once again we see the incredible genius of the rare celebrity mind. Charlie Sheen is a well known student of the great theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking. We wish we were as well versed as Sheen. Incredible.

The Epic Mystery of Kardashian Physics
Something incredible indeed. Carl Sagan must have longed for the day when the big mystery of what Kim Kardashian looks like when she gains some weight, would finally be solved. Thank you Kim, you are a source of knowledge for all science.

Amanda Bynes Shows Hawking How It’s Done

If only Stephen Hawking had the foresight to wear a blanket over his head like Amanda Bynes. She knows what’s what. Miss Bynes is totally invisible and not going to trip. Unlike Hawking who’s just been wasting his time with theoretical physics. He must be so jealous.

Lil Twist of Wisdom
Einstein would be proud of Justin Bieber and Lil Twist as they work the red carpet at probably the best radio station ever. It’s inspiring to see two talented young men focus on the greater good rather. Right on, Beebs!
