Pablo Escobar’s mansion was torn down to reveal a big surprise

In 2014, Christian de Berdouare and his wife Jennifer Valoppi unknowingly purchased Pablo Escobar’s Florida mansion. Once the couple figured out the mansion’s history, they decided to search the house to make sure nothing was left behind and then have the house demolished.

The house was seized by the US government in 1987 and then auctioned off. Mr de Berdouare, who bought the house for just under $10 million, said “This was the biggest criminal in the history of the world. I would like to be associated with something more uplifting, but nevertheless it’s part of the city.”

While demolishing the Miami mansion, construction workers found a safe hidden in the foundation. “It was in the ground under some marble and was discovered by some of our workers, but before we even had a chance to remove it, it was stolen, so we’ve been working with police on that,” Jennifer Valoppi, told the BBC.
